Educational Qualification:
1. For Practising Advocates/ Pleaders / Assistant Public Prosecutors –i. Must be a Citizen of Indiaii. (a) Must possess a Degree in Law of a University in India established or incorporated by or under a Central Act or a State Act or an Institution recognized by the University Grants Commission, or any other equivalent qualification and got enrolled as an Advocate under a State Bar Council established under the Advocates Act, 1961 And(b) Must be practising as an Advocate or Pleader in the High Court or Courts subordinate thereto and must have so practiced for not less than three years on the date of the High Court’s Notification for recruitment to the post. Or(c) Must be an Assistant Public Prosecutor having not less than three years of experience as an Advocate and / or Assistant Public Prosecutor on the date of notification. |
2. For Fresh Law Graduates – Must be a fresh Law Graduate possessing a degree in Law from a recognized University as mentioned in Clause – [(I) (ii). (a).] above, who is eligible to be enrolled as an Advocate and who has secured overall percentage of 50% marks in acquiring such a Law Degree in case of open categories and 45% marks in respect of other reserved categories. Fresh Law graduates are those who have obtained the Degree of Law within a period of three years prior to the date of notification. |
Age Limit: (As on 01.07.2023)
1. For Practising Advocates/ Pleader / Assistant Public Prosecutors – For SC, ST, OBC 25 years to 40 years, Others 25 years to 35 years |
2. For Fresh Law Graduates – For all Categories 22 years to 27 years |

Salary Details:
1. Civil Judge – Rs. 27,700 – 770 – 33,090 – 920 – 40450 – 1080 – 44,770/- |
Selection Process:
Madras High Court may follow the following process to select the candidates.
(i) Preliminary Examination |
(ii) Main Examination |
(iii) Viva–Voce Test. |
Application Fee/Exam Fee:
Examination fee is – Rs.2,000/-.Total Fee exemption for All Women candidates, Persons with Disabilities and candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST).Mode Of Payment Of Examination Fees: After submission of application, the applicant shall take printout of ‘Challan’ that is generated and remit the requisite fees along with service charges levied by the bank before the last date prescribed for remittance of fee, at any branch of Indian Bank. The branch concerned will retain the Bank Copy of the ‘Challan’ and return the “Applicant Copy” and “High Court Copy” to the applicant, which shall be retained by the applicant and the “High Court Copy” shall be scanned and the same shall be uploaded in the recruitment portal of the Madras High Court and it can be cited for all future references/disputes, if any, regarding the payment of fee. |
